How We’re Like and Nothing Like Green Acres

A study of two different childless couples that left the city for the farm life that turns into a crowdfunding ask in the end.

We like to let you know what you're getting into from the jump here at Kelly Green Farm.

We’ve been watching a bunch of the TV show, Green Acres on Tubi. At first kind of jokingly, but then Eva Gabor came in with an impeccably timed quip and that impeccably done hair and we were stuck.

I identify with her though. I roll with the punches. I love meeting new people and contrary to my recent internet presence. I do like to be among the well-dressed in the room. I'm a sparkling wine girl who loves a party and loves to entertain. I believe everything has a balance. And homesteading and farming has plenty of room for a few touches of glam.

Actually, what sealed the deal was when we realized Pat Buttram, the guy that plays the shady Mr. Haney...

Also voiced one of the sleepy dogs from the AristoCats. You will soon find that a cartoon connection gets us every time.

In case you’re unfamiliar with Green Acres. It is a Post-Modern sitcom that ran from 1965-1971 on American Television. It’s the story of a New York City lawyer that always wanted to be a farmer but was forced into becoming a lawyer by his father.

At some point, he can’t take the city life anymore and he buys, sight unseen and with zero input from his socialite wife, a dusty farm with a raggedy farmhouse.

It’s all explained in the theme song.

Sure, it's got some dated cringe to it. Like, for instance this chest moment that always makes Brandon laugh.

Brandon is nothing like Oliver Wendell Douglas over there. He's not nearly as arrogant-would absolutely never - EVER - pull a huge life altering stunt like this without a discussion. Brandon cooks and we both split chores and hard labor.

Also Brandon wouldn't let himself get got by that shady Mr. Haney, renting out roosters and selling them their own kitchen sink back to them. Like, Oliver! Aren't you a New York Lawyer? He can't negotiate for nothing!

But we also connected with Green Acres. Like Oliver, we are also frustrated with traffic and crowds of the city.

Granted, I am a much more willing participant in this move than poor Lisa. If you would have asked me a few years ago if I would be working this hard to leave the city to go back to the country I would have choked on my sparking wine and laughed the house down.

But we've been working on this for a few years now, and I can't help but feel like we are on the right path. Even COVID felt like a sign from the Universe that it's time to find some fresher air and bigger skies.

Plus we do love small town antics. If you haven't already, give Brandon's blog a read, where he talks about us just being two kids from small towns. We've already met some awesome and very helpful new friends in the Louisburg area,

Ultimately I think we love Green Acres, because it's a great distraction from the pressure of what we're doing. And probably because we feel like we've done way more homework than those guys. Also, we have a solid support base of friends, family, and followers that grows everyday.

I'm giddy to say that Kelly Green Farm is happening! It's almost like what they say is true, whatever you put your energy and positivity into will happen. And now it's happening even faster than before, with your help.

We have launched our crowdfunding campaign!

Click the link and take a look at our campaign! There's gifts for every level of support. Depending on what you give you could have a chicken, goat, or even a trail named after you!

See, this is how I want to re-write Green Acres. Oliver should have let Lisa stay in the city and crowdfund for them with a glitzy function. Then maybe they could have gotten some renovation help and more farm hands. Granted, then we would miss out on all the Lisa fish out of water comedy. Oh well, just want Bless this Mess instead. (Seriously it's a cute show.)

Not that Eb Dawson isn't hilarious, but sometimes he does have a tendency to work a nerve.

We're going to keep at it. We're going to keep posting our gardening and farming content and putting in the sweat. Thank you so much for your attention and support.
